Bananas and berries go together like cookies and cream. In fact, they taste so good together, that for this shake we decided to omit the milk altogether and the result still tasted ethereally great.

This recipe calls for two kinds of berries, and you can mix and match between raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, cranberries, and a number of other sweet berries.

Note: use only sweet berries because the sweetness of this shake is going to come from them, and it does not work if tart berries are used.

The creaminess of banana offsets the sweet berries perfectly, making this a great shake for the season.

You can use whatever fruits that are fresh, and it is advised that you do not use canned berries.

You can also use dried cranberries and dates in this, to add to the sweetness. However, as they are in a concentrated form, it is a good thing to add them in lesser amount than actual berries and add a bit of water to adjust the water content.

  • 1 cup fresh berries (you can use one type or use a number of different types
  • 1 banana, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon chia seeds
  • ½ cup crushed ice

Clean and cut the berries if needed. Hull the strawberries if needed and cut into pieces. Blend the berries with the chia seeds and banana over high speed for 1 minute, or until the mixture is very smooth. Add the crushed ice and blend for half a minute longer. Once that is done, pour into glasses and serve immediately.

This drink is quite heavy, but tastes great and after a workout or in the morning as a substitute for breakfast this is great. You can add 1 tablespoon whey protein or the protein powder of your choice to this as well.
